Cancer Donkey Rescue: Chilot

In October 2009 Kate found an abandoned donkey in Gondar market and brought him to the Tara Centre, the community centre she used to run in Gondar's city centre.

Chilot has sarcoids (a form of equine skin cancer) on his neck and chest.

"The disease does not spread to the internal organs," explains Kate. "He'll have a happy and useful life with me."

Chilot is currently in Gondar, although he will soon be moved to Empress Mentewab School in Dib Bahir where he will be a pet donkey for the children. His cancer poses no threat whatsoever to humans.

Kate is currently in contact with the University of Liverpool, where the veterinary faculty has experts on sarcoids and their treatment.
